HAITI

The first case of the Mayaro virus disease was detected. This disease is transmitted by the "Aedes aegypti" mosquito, the same transmitter of zika, dengue, yellow fever and chikungunya, among others.

This virus has the same symptoms of the above mentioned diseases: fever, fatigue and pain in joints and muscles. There is no specific treatment or vaccine to prevent this virus.

ECUADOR

Tungurahua volcano maintains interna activity and upward trend according to the Geophysical Institute. In the last hours, three long-period events have been registered and also a tectonic volcano event.

Five months after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake, 383,090 people are still affected and 7,886 people remain in 24 governmental shelters.

GUATEMALA

A State of Prevention was issued due to the constant rains. This alert is issued to prevent the loss of human lives; this agreement establishes the limitation to the right of freedom of movement and “change or maintain residency of people in affected areas/risk areas, whenever circumstances demand it."

COSTA RICA

Turrialba volcano maintains its continuous emission of ashes. According to the National Seismological Network (RSN), after the eruptions, the volcano continues its eruptive activity in small pulses, which are frequently accompanied by tremor episodes.

NICARAGUA

Numerous aftershocks have been recorded since the 5.9ML earthquake on 14 September. The quake and its aftershocks were caused by a geological fault located on the slopes of the El Hoyo volcano, according to INETER The Government is assisting the affected families with humanitarian supplies (mattresses, sheets, plastic bags, toilet paper) and continues to aid the amilies of the communities near the volcano.

Authorities reported a fire in the Amazon rainforest of Peru, which has destroyed more than 20,000 hectares of forest, threatening at least three indigenous communities and two protected areas.
